Dr Schmitt is one of the foremost Orthopaedic Surgeons on the Costa del Sol with an enviable reputation. His training in this speciality began as far back as 1989 in the military hospital in Munich, Germany.
From 1996 to 2001 he held the post of Senior Registrar in Orthopaedic Surgery in the military hospital of Berlin. During the five and a half years he was there, Dr. Schmitt was also involved in teaching junior doctors and registrars in orthopaedic medicine and surgery. He has held a number of teaching posts in various hospitals in Germany and lectured in Austria. He is a member of the German Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is registered with the College of Malaga as a specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology. He also has additional qualifications in the speciality of sports medicine.

Trigger finger: Trigger finger is a common name for a condition called stenosing tenosynovitis. The condition is caused by localized swelling of the tendons that assist the finger in flexing inward towards the palm of the hand.

Bunions: Usually, surgery involves realignment of the toe (osteotomy) and repair of the ligaments and tendons. In some cases an implant maybe indicated to replace part or the whole of the joint.

Hammer Toe: Surgery involves loosening the contracted toe joint and therefore allowing proper alignment of the toe with the others.

Knee, shoulder & hip replacements: Replacement joints are made of metal or plastic or both. The Surgeon may choose to cement the joint in place or not, depending on your personal requirements. Joints that are not cemented in are often used on younger people where new bone will eventually grow around the joint. If you are less mobile and/or your bones are rather weak, the Surgeon may well decide to cement the new prosthesis in place.
