Basic studies for a degree in Medicine and Surgery are taken in the Medical and Surgical Faculty with a rigorous training programme. The OMC is the Organizacion Medica Colegial which encompasses all official colleges - go

In Spain there are around 52 official doctors' colleges located in the various provinces which link all of the doctors together like the General Medical Council does in the UK. A Degree in Medicine and Surgery establishes a medical professional as a Doctor and allows him/her to practice in general medicine. After the examination, graduates can undertake learning posts in public hospitals.
Surgeons study for a general medical degree for five to six years at university followed by an attachment to a teaching hospital where they complete a period of residency in an appropriate hospital.
Many surgeons in Spain are registered with the
General Medical Council in the UK. To become a Specialist the graduate must then pass a national exam to enter specialist hospital training - this is called MIR (Medico Interno Residente).
To practise medicine in Spain doctors must be registered with the relevant Medical Association in their individual province.
